The SB 1 Grant Program offers funding to local, regional, and tribal governments for planning and implementing projects to adapt to sea level rise and climate change impacts, with additional technical assistance available for those representing Environmental Justice communities.

Grant funds for this program are for small agricultural businesses that have been financially impacted by severe drought and/or flooding in the State of California and will be disbursed in the following groups for awards of up to $100,000. Drought Groups: • Drought Group 3 funds will be allocated to qualified small agricultural businesses that do not file their 2022 tax returns until 2024 (application opens in 2024).     Previous funding groups (Drought Groups 1 and 2, and Flood Group 1) are closed and funds are no longer available. The current allocation of funds is only applicable for agricultural businesses that meet the definition above for Drought Group 3.

The Coastal Conservancy funds a wide variety of projects along the California coast, San Francisco Bay, and in coastal watersheds to increase availability of beaches, parks and trails for the public, protect and restore natural lands and wildlife habitat, preserve working lands, and increase community resilience to the impacts of climate change. The Conservancy will fund most stages of a project including: pre-project feasibility studies, property acquisition, project planning including community involvement, design, environmental review, permitting, construction, and project-related monitoring. Eligibility Criteria  Applicant must be a California-based fire department, firefighter association or a nonprofit organization. Other groups may apply when doing so in collaboration with one of the three above-referenced entities, including fiscal agents; Fire departments serving and firefighter associations representing the same community, or whose personnel/members serve the same geographic region, are eligible to individually apply for funding; Project must benefit communities in California, with priority given to disinvested communities and historically marginalized populations located in high-threat areas; Requested amount should not exceed $25,000 (requests outside of this range will be considered on an as-needed basis); CFF does not require matching funds; and Funding decisions are generally communicated several weeks after the application window closes. Projects should address one or more of the following Creative Youth Development program goals: Provide social-emotional creative experiences in safe, healthy and appropriate learning environments. Foster creative abilities of youth through culturally and linguistically responsive arts learning. Support arts programs that seek to activate youth voices, narratives, and perspectives. Grants will be awarded for specific eligible activities, such as speaking on a panel, participating in a working group, or participation in other decision-making processes. The PP Grant Account cap per organization of $15,000 will ensure a proportional distribution of funds over time and across various organizations. This program provides funding to Native American tribes, counties, cities, and special districts to acquire and position oil spill response equipment to safeguard local economic and environmental resources near state waters.

Mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters. Mitigation is taking action now, before the next disaster, to reduce human and financial consequences later. Effective mitigation requires that we all understand local risks, address the hard choices and invest in long-term community well-being and resilience. Without mitigation actions, we jeopardize our safety, financial security, and self-reliance. As the result of a Presidential Disaster Declaration, FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds plans and projects that reduce the effects of future natural disasters. In California, these funds are administered by the Cal OES HMGP Unit. Eligible subapplicants include state agencies, local governments, special districts, and some private non-profits. Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Funding Opportunity Cal OES Hazard Mitigation accepts Notice of Interest (NOI) on an ongoing basis for future funding opportunities. A health care practitioner is defined as a medical doctor, osteopathic doctor, licensed midwife, certified nurse-midwife, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, licensed vocational nurse, or physician assistant. Applicants applying as a health care practitioner must include with their proposal a current, valid, unrestricted license to practice in the State of California. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and may apply only with a fiscal agent that is an established 501c3 non-profit arts organization that can provide: an IRS determination letter, IRS 990, and annual budget (see “fiscal agent responsibilities” section below for further requirements). Artists must have sustainable creative work and submit a resume summarizing a minimum of two years of artistic work history and accomplishments. The Small Capacity Building Grant Program awards are aimed at strengthening the organizational capacity and programmatic effectiveness of nonprofit organizations serving communities within Santa Barbara County.
