Eligibility Criteria Grants may support a broad range of community needs, including, but not limited to health and wellness, education, the great outdoors, arts and culture, and community development. Ineligible organizations or activities Individuals, for-profit, 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6), and non-Alaska based organizations, private or family foundations, state and federal government agencies, and ad hoc groups without a tax-exempt legal status are not eligible for competitive grants. Applications for religious indoctrination or other religious activities, endowment building, deficit financing, fundraising, lobbying, electioneering, or activities of political nature will not be considered, nor will proposals for ads, sponsorships, or special events (e.g., fundraisers), and any proposals which discriminate as to race, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, age, disability, creed, or ethnicity. Exceptions In selected cases, projects undertaken by organizations that normally fall outside the above guidelines may be able to receive funding. Examples include faith-based organizations whose proposal impacts the broader community, and units of government whose proposal extends beyond the traditional governmental functions that impact the broader community. Fiscal Sponsorship Ineligible organizations may be able to receive funding for projects if they seek support from a qualified organization who is willing to provide fiscal sponsorship. Fiscal sponsors must agree to take legal and fiscal responsibility for accepting grant funds from GHCF on behalf of the ineligible organization. A letter from the fiscal sponsor must be submitted with the application for the project to be considered. Evaluation Criteria The GHCF Grants Committee is composed of volunteer Advisory Board and other community members. The committee strives to facilitate a competitive process that is fair and transparent, and all eligible applications are reviewed and evaluated using a scoring matrix by each committee member. Preference will be given to applications which have the potential to impact a broad range of Fairbanks North Star Borough area residents. Applications should detail measurable and achievable outcomes, and demonstrate other sources of support, collaboration, and/or cooperation. Evaluation criteria include but are not limited to the overall merit of the project, the ability of the organization to successfully complete the project, the clarity and measurability of the project’s goal, the feasibility of the time frame given for completion of the project, and the number of people served. The Beautification Commission is accepting a second round of applications for the 2024 Beautification Matching Grant Program. Donor Name: City of Valdez State: Alaska City: Valdez Type of Grant: Grant Deadline:  05/31/2024 Size of the Grant: $10,000 to $100,000 Grant Duration: Grant Duration Not Mentioned Details: The Valdez Beautification Matching Grant Program offers a financial incentive designed to assist local businesses or commercial property owners in improving the business setting for investors as well as providing an overall upgrade in appearance for residents and visitors. 2024 will be the ninth year of the program and continues with the expansion of eligible properties outside the core downtown district. The 2024 matching grant program’s goal is to improve the overall aesthetics of Valdez through: Improving the overall quality of building/structure façades in order to attract more local residents and visitors to shop, eat, and do business in Valdez. Encouraging businesses to invest in additional aesthetic and design improvements including landscaping and art. Encouraging and incentivizing property/business owners to reinvest in community. Encouraging grant applicants to strengthen the local economy through utilizing local vendors, contractors, and materials. Funding Information Applicants can apply for a grant rebate to pay for up to 50 percent of the cost of improvements, with a maximum reimbursement of $12,500 per building. Projects involving corner buildings or spanning more than one lot/parcel may request larger grant amounts, not to exceed a maximum reimbursement of $25,000. Eligible Properties Properties located in the following zoning districts1 are eligible to apply for funding: Central Business District, General Commercial, Waterfront Industrial and Light Industrial. Properties must be used primarily for a business purpose to be eligible for grant funding. Properties must be up to date on their property taxes and may not have open code violations to apply. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska is inviting applications for its Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) grant program. This initiative aims to foster partnerships with state, county, and tribal governments to plan and execute projects for the restoration of forests, rangelands, and watersheds. The GNA program supports activities including the treatment of insect-and disease-infected trees, hazardous fuels reduction, and other efforts to enhance forest, rangeland, and watershed health, inclusive of fish and wildlife habitats. GNA is applicable to Federal and non-Federal lands, as well as lands owned by Indian tribes. Projects that directly benefit BLM-managed lands, even if executed on non-BLM lands, are eligible for funding. Examples of potential projects under this program in Alaska encompass noxious weeds and invasive species treatment, fuels management, community assistance, forest management, rangeland plant restoration, wildlife habitat connectivity, NEPA compliance support, riparian restoration, and targeted grazing. The program is designed to address a wide range of environmental quality and public benefit goals through collaborative, cross-boundary restoration services.

The Seward Community Foundation (SCF), an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF), offers mini-grants up to $1,000 to support a wide array of community needs in Seward and/or Moose Pass. This flexible funding opportunity aims to support projects related to health and wellness, education, the great outdoors, arts and culture, and community development. Applications are reviewed monthly by the SCF Advisory Board, with a submission deadline on the 5th of each month.
