West Virginia Community Development Grants

This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in specific eastern U.S. states for projects that focus on human needs, environmental stewardship, education, and community vitality.

In keeping with the wishes of Michael and Sarah Benedum, the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation is a regional philanthropy focusing on West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Foundation generally invests two-thirds of its grant dollars in West Virginia and one-third in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Foundation serves the entire state of West Virginia. In Southwestern Pennsylvania, the service area includes Allegheny, Washington, Greene, and Fayette Counties. This four-county area is a natural connector between Pittsburgh and West Virginia and contains rural communities that may benefit from the Benedum Foundation’s experiences in West Virginia. However, the Foundation recognizes that economic regions do not follow political boundaries, and therefore, the Foundation both encourages projects that cross state lines, and supports economic initiatives that benefit the multi-state economy centered on Pittsburgh. The Foundation makes grants in two program areas that span both states: Education and Economic Development. In addition, the Foundation supports Community Development and Health grants programs in West Virginia, and in Southwestern Pennsylvania supports the major performing arts organizations within the Cultural District.

Contact Information: - Email: [email protected] Award Details: Toyota partners with nonprofit organizations in the U.S. to support programs in various areas, including education, inclusive mobility, community resilience, health and human services, arts and culture, and civic and community. The organization prefers to support program-based requests but may also consider fundraising activities where most of the proceeds go directly to the organization. Funding requests should benefit a large number of people, offer participation in local educational programs, have clear and measurable goals, establish means for evaluation and reporting, provide leadership and development programs, target youth, and include financial commitments from other funding organizations. Toyota does not fund organizations that discriminate or requests from individuals, political organizations, fraternal organizations, churches, labor organizations, non-charitable organizations, athletic organizations or sports teams, individual and/or private schools, or requests covering institutional expenses or deficits. The geographic scope includes specific counties in West Virginia, with limited consideration for statewide programs and additional counties where Toyota team members live. READY Community Foundations, part of ARC's READY Appalachia initiative, offers no-cost training to community foundations in Appalachia. Participants will build skills in financial management, fundraising, grantmaking, and strategic planning. Eligible foundations can apply for up to $25,000 in funding to implement capacity-building projects post-training. Applications are due by July 5, 2024.

Farm Credit of the Virginias provides added support to our customer-owners and the rural communities we call home through our Charitable Contributions Fund, in which we extend grant funding to charitable organizations in our territory. The fund allows our cooperative to support the growth of agricultural programs, invest in the future of agriculture and enhance the quality of life in the rural communities we serve. Mission and Objectives Through the Charitable Contributions Fund, Farm Credit of the Virginias continues to build strong partnerships with organizations that preserve and promote farmers and families in our rural communities. Objectives we support include food security, veteran services, youth agriculture involvement and more. Established in 2003, the Logan Healthcare Foundation, Inc. aims to enhance the health status and access to healthcare for residents in its service area, which includes Logan, Boone, Lincoln, Mingo, and Wyoming counties in Southern West Virginia. The Foundation focuses on supporting or initiating physical and mental health programs, improving living conditions, and promoting health policies to meet the unmet health needs within its geographic scope. Through its grant program, the Foundation supports a broad range of health-related initiatives, including programs for the elderly and underprivileged, abuse prevention, smoking cessation, substance abuse prevention and treatment, vaccination services, women’s health services, and health and wellness activities. Grants generally range from $500 to 20% of the year's approved funding, with a maximum typically between $45,000 and $55,000. Grant renewed every year.
