The purpose of the Promote Mental Health Among the Health Professional Workforce (PMHW) program is to support health care entities, including entities that provide health care services, such as hospitals, community health centers, and rural health clinics, or medical professional associations, to promote wellness, resilience, and mental health of the health care professional workforce using established or enhanced evidence-based or evidence-informed programs to transform organizational cultures.

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for a global project to 1) dissuade and deter governments from engaging in and/or facilitating transnational repression (TNR) activities and 2) mitigate the impact of TNR activities on individuals and communities. The U.S. National Science Foundations Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP) is charged with accelerating use-inspiredand translationalresearch and development (R) to advance U.S. competitiveness in key technology focus areas. The Advancing Cell-Free Systems Toward Increased Range of Use-Inspired Applications (CFIRE) initiative will accelerate the adoption of cell-free systems, enable new applications of this technology and contribute to the growth of the U.S. bioeconomy. A nascent industry has formed around the ability to carry out biochemical processes, such as DNA transcription/translation, in cell-free in-vitro systems instead of in traditional cell-based in-vivo bio-reactors. This approach has a number of potential advantages, including rapid turn-around, distributed and highly retargetable manufacturing, high-fidelity instrumentation and control of the manufacturing environments without the constraints of biological growth and the interference caused by cell biomass and cell membranes during product purification. Furthermore, cell-free systems can produce products that are challenging to manufacture in cell-based cultures, such as those inherently toxic to cells or hydrocarbon products that are consumed by the cellular machinery. Despite these advantages, present-day cell-free manufacturing is significantly more expensive than cell-based methods and cell-free systems have a limited range of applications. CFIRE aims to: 1. Reduce the cost of cell-free systems; 2. Increase the range and capabilities of cell-free systems; and 3. Develop and demonstrate cost-effective use-inspired applications. CFIRE will address the key limitations of cell-free technology by identifying technical approaches that can enable ongoing cycles of improvement. The objective is to place cell-free technology on an exponential growth path in which reduced costs lead to increasing adoption which, in turn, generates the learning and investment required to further reduce costs. In order to keep the work focused and to stimulate increasing adoption, efforts funded through this initiative will focus on one or more specific use cases. CFIRE seeks significant breakthroughs that will accelerate the adoption of cell-free systems by: (a) Demonstrating the feasibility and advantages of cell-free systems through use-inspired applications with specific emphasis on applications beyond human therapeutics; (b) Creating infrastructure components, such as tools, protocols, kits, datasets, and characterization services that can readily be accessed by third parties; and (c) Investing in workforce components focused on the training of translational talent with the skills and passion to engage in use-driven cell-free applications. CFIRE will use the Ideas Lab process (see PAPPG Chapter II.F.6), starting with an intensive meeting that brings together multiple diverse perspectives. The primary objectives of this Ideas Lab workshop will be to: identify specific opportunities to significantly reduce the cost of cell-free systems; establish acceptable standards for the fidelity and reproducibility; expand the range of capabilities in order to facilitate broader adoption of the technology; and identify and prioritize use-driven applications beyond human therapeutics.

Services like composting, recycling, energy/water benchmarking, and consulting are also emphasized, alongside educational signage and labels. These priorities reflect a holistic approach to sustainability, addressing various facets of business operations. Expected outcomes include a significant reduction in the operational costs for participating businesses due to increased energy efficiency and waste reduction. Measurable results will likely involve the number of businesses implementing sustainable upgrades, the amount of energy saved, the volume of waste diverted from landfills, and the expansion of green infrastructure within the city. The program's strategic approach is to incentivize tangible changes that collectively contribute to the City’s broader Climate Action & Resilience Plan, acting as a catalyst for widespread sustainable practices within the business community. This aligns with a theory of change where financial incentives drive behavioral and infrastructure changes, leading to a more sustainable and resilient urban environment.

The CHIPS Research and Development Program (CHIPS R) aims to advance the development of semiconductor technologies and to enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. semiconductor industry. This is the first Notice of Funding Opportunity under this program. It seeks applications for new research and development (R) activities to establish and accelerate domestic capacity for advanced packaging substrates and substrate materials, a key technology for producing microelectronics systems. This NOFO seeks applications for research and development activities that will establish and accelerate domestic capacity for advanced packaging substrates and substrate materials. Through this NOFO, the NAPMP program seeks to achieve the following objectives: (1) Accelerate domestic R&D and innovation in advanced packaging materials and substrates; (2) Translate domestic materials and substrate innovation into U.S. manufacturing, such that these technologies are available to U.S. manufacturers and customers, including to significantly benefit U.S. economic and national security; (3) Support the establishment of a robust, sustainable, domestic capacity for advanced packaging materials and substrate R&D, prototyping, commercialization, and manufacturing; and (4) Promote a skilled and diverse pipeline of workers for a sustainable domestic advanced packaging industry. NAPMP plans to release subsequent NOFOs relevant to other research areas and for an Advanced Packaging Piloting Facility (APPF), where successful development efforts will be transitioned and validated for scaled transition to U.S. manufacturing. The APPF is expected to be a key facility for technology transfer to high-volume manufacturing.

The Grain Storage Facility Safety Cost-Share Program, managed by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), is designed to assist Minnesota farmers in enhancing safety at on-farm grain bins and silos. For the fiscal year 2024, approximately $75,000 is allocated to this program, which also encompasses the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) Rebate programs. This initiative offers financial assistance for the purchase, shipment, and installation of eligible safety equipment, focusing on retrofits for existing facilities. Eligible equipment includes fall protection systems, engineering controls, dust collection systems, personal protective equipment, grain silo air quality monitoring equipment, and other specified safety gear. The program reimburses 75% of the eligible expenses, up to $400 per bin or silo, with a yearly cap of $2,400 per farm.

The Pennsylvania Water Trails Program Mini Grant, overseen by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) in partnership with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the National Park Service, aims to address urgent issues on designated water trails that compromise safety or access. With a total of $2000 available, this grant supports projects that can quickly resolve situations like storm-induced damage, navigational obstructions, or critical sign destruction that impedes safe water trail access. Eligible projects must match the grant 1:1 with cash or in-kind services. The grant serves as a last-resort funding source for unforeseen issues affecting Pennsylvania's 28 designated water trails, emphasizing safety and accessibility while fostering recreational opportunities and sustainable natural resource use. Inflation Reduction Act Funding for Advanced Biofuels Bioenergy Technologies Offices 2024 Systems Development and Integration (SDI) FOA is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022. IRA Section 60108(b) authorized $10 million to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for new grants to industry in advanced biofuels. EPA and DOE entered an Interagency Agreement to transfer the funds to DOE and allow DOE to manage a FOA with substantial involvement from EPA. The FOAs topic areas are of mutual interest for both the EPAs priority in the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program and DOE BETOs priority in the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Grand Challenge as well as SDIs priority in supporting four demonstration-scale integrated biorefineries by 2030. For both topic areas, the application must discuss how the proposed technology would meet the RFS definition of advanced biofuel, which means using allowable feedstocks, producing allowable fuel types, and with lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions reductions of at least 50% compared to petroleum base baseline.

The National Institutes of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) with other NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), intends to publish a new Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for multi-PI team-based, challenging, high impact projects to improve understanding of mechanisms of chronic pain in children and adolescents and to accelerate the development of age appropriate, patient/family centered prevention and therapeutic approaches. This research will seek to advance an integrated understanding of the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to pediatric chronic pain. NIH is interested in pain research in infants, children, and adolescents that includes those with intellectual and physical disabilities and/or those who experience health disparities (e.g., diverse race/ethnicity, sexual and gender minorities, socioeconomically disadvantaged, medically underserved communities, people with limited English proficiency). NIH encourages applicants to consider community-engaged research and interdisciplinary, collaborative applications to be developed in partnership with patient communities and/or community organizations where possible. The long-term goal is to develop improved knowledge of specific pediatric pain conditions as well as pain associated with diverse diseases/disorders, to improve understanding of pain in the context of child development and to facilitate the stratification of patients with specific pain conditions and co-morbidities to accelerate chronic pain prevention and therapeutic clinical trials. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. NIA intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) soliciting applications that aim to develop Common Data Elements (CDEs) for Alzheimers disease (AD) and AD-Related Dementias (ADRD) using Real-World Data (RWD) from electronic health records and Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) claims. The CDEs will foster data harmonization and interoperability among data systems that involve disparate and unaligned RWD. By reducing the efforts required for data harmonization in using RWD for cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis, the NOFO may enable researchers to utilize RWD more efficiently and produce real-world evidence in a faster manner. The NOFO is expected to be published in March 2024 with an expected application due date in June 2024. Please note that these time frames are simply estimations, and they may change. The NOFO is expected to utilize the Resource-Related Research Projects Cooperative Agreements (U24) activity code. In this case "omnibus" means that this NRA has many individual program elements, each with its own due dates and topics. All together these cover the wide range of basic and applied supporting research and technology in space and Earth sciences supported by SMD. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed, the proposing organization, and/or program requirements.
